Celebrating International Women's Day In East London, Kip Style

International Women’s Day is fast approaching (literally this Wednesday, 8th March), and although we shouldn’t need an excuse to celebrate all the incredibly badass women out there, we also love an excuse to celebrate! Considering we’re based in East London, naturally a few of our IWD suggestions are a little more biased towards this end of town, however, we’re pretty sure you’re going to love our suggestions. SO, here’s some ideas of how you can celebrate International Women’s Day…Kip Style! 

First things first, let’s keep things cultured, IWD should always be celebrated with a little art, and true appreciation of the incredible talent & creativity of female artists. D Contemporary is putting on a group show, Unladylike Exhibition, showcasing all female artists. The show focuses on the ever evolving relationship between body and identity, in a series of intimate portraits which encourage us to embrace ourselves and discuss taboos. It’s looking to be a really powerful, and inspiring show…ideal for an International Women’s Day celebration. 

There are some super saucy bars scattered around East London, but two come to mind when it comes to celebrating beautiful females…Bar Dona, and Tonight Josephine. Bar Dona is a hot pink hub of female creativity, self-expression, and just full of pure badass women! It’s the kind of place you’ll discover up-and-coming female djs, and taste delicious Mezcal cocktails. Tonight Josephine is another hot pink sensation, in Shoreditch, it feels a little like walking into a giant disco ball/roller disco all at once. Tonight Josephine is A LOT of fun, there’s always something going on; cocktail master classes, drag races, bottomless brunches, and loads more! 

If you’re looking to get creative yourself for IWD, then you might want to try out the DJ workshop happening at East London's Florattica Rooftop bar, in collaboration with the women-led collective Hub 16. The workshop includes…yes you guessed it, a workshop on how to dj, as well as a glass of champagne, a tasty cocktail, and a sushi platter. Not sure about you, but this is how we’d want to spend IWD! 

In our opinion pasta is always a good idea, and seeing as we’re celebrating all things female, then naturally we’d suggest trying out a female owned past bar in the heart of Shoreditch, Burro e Salvia, owned by Gaia Enria. Burro e Salvia is undeniably cool, and the pastas are undeniably delicious, the menu also changes monthly…so you’ll never be bored.  Whatever you decide to do for International Women’s Day, we wish you and all of your badass ladies the very best day!
