The Kip Wall Mural, And Other Art Exhibitions To See This Summer In East London
In East London We all know that summer in London means festivals, beer gardens, bikinis in the park, and Aperol Spritz on tap, but we can’t forget about the incredible art dotted around London…including our very own mural on the side of our hotel! So, here’s our list of art exhibitions to see this summer (or what’s left of it), in East London…
Kip Wall – A Window To Hackney
We’re not about to be humble here, so let’s kickstart with our very own mural which decorates the side of our hotel, right next to Hackney Central station. The Kip Wall was curated by our artistic director, Talina Naviede, and the Kip team, as an opportunity to give 5 up-and-coming UK artists, the chance to display their work for all of East London to see! The wall is comprised of 20 different murals, all focused around the theme ‘connection’, and aims to welcome people with a positive message about the multicultural and vibrant nature of Hackney, adding som extra colour to the lives of the millions of locals, commuters, and hotel guests that pass by it every week.

Ajamu: The Patron Saint of Darkrooms
An incredible exhibition which unapologetically celebrates black queer bodies, by Ajamu, a photographer at the forefront of gender queer photography. Ajamu’s erotic photographs present the lives and experiences of himself and those around him, coming from a very personal place. The exhibition is free to visit, and takes place at Autograph Gallery in Shoreditch, running until 2nd September!
Lucy Orta Traces: Stories of Migration
International artist and researcher, Lucy Orta, alongside 80 residents across Newham and Tower Hamlets produced a collective tapestry of lived experiences, over the course of two years. The exhibition will feature a variety of different mediums including poetry, film, works on canvas, and a range of textiles, which are all focused around the East End rag trade and celebrate East London’s historical clothing and textile industry, with a strong focus on community migration. It’s a true insight into East London, from a very different angle that we may be used to seeing it day to day.
Capturing The Moment
Another EPIC exhibition is gracing the Tate Modern, with ‘Capturing The Moment.’ Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Paulina Olowska, Lisa Brice, Hiroshi Sugimoto… are just a few of the artists whose work has been curated for this exhibition, which explores the dynamic between contemporary painting and photography. The exhibition explores how the arrival of photography changed the course of painting forever, and shares some of the most iconic paintings of all time!
As you can see, our local area has a HUGE amount of talent, art and culture to offer, so be sure to get your fix…and kick start with our very own Kip hotel mural 😉
